This ain’t where I started and I’m not sure where we’re headed! I’m Midstory.

Hello and welcome, friends! I am so excited (and terrified) to announce my new business name, Midstory Photography, formerly M Rooks Photo. To kick-off the name change, I just want to do a quick introduction.

I am Mary Boyett Rooks, wife to Graham, mother to Gabriel Outlaw and Emory Wilder, and friend to basically everyone I pass. Careful, just put your head down when you see me coming if you don’t want to get into a deep conversation with a stranger. I’ve lived all over, but I am stoked to call Jackson, MS my home (words I never thought I would say).

My goal here on this blog portion of my website is to share skills, tips and a fair bit of feelin’s th at hopefully you guys can glean from, either as a business owner, a photographer, a parent, a resident or visitor of a small town or just a human being. I love to make even the smallest of outings into big adventures, but I also love my share of big time adventures. I’ve backpacked in Denali, camped in Northern Kenya, rafted the Nile, lived the hip ol’ Austin, Texas life and loved it all, but I trip to the train yard via the pothole-ridden Jackson roads can prove to be a pretty rad alternative if you have the right companions and the right state of mind.

I can’t wait to have you guys follow along with our personal story as I help capture that of my clients. I think, like me, a lot of us would have written our story a little differently, but can see how beautifully it chooses to write itself. The master author pens the most marvelous stories. We don’t know how they will end, but as each chapter unfolds, let’s capture it and savor it. Let’s capture the essence of each moment, midstory, so we can feel the folds in the dresses we wore, smell the scent of grandmama’s perfume when she held us so tight, feel the prickles of papa’s unshaven face because he woke up a little late on photo day. And let’s do it together!
